Exploring the Impact of Internalised Ageism in Arts & Wellbeing Services

Join us for a free online workshop in partnership with Dr Georgia Bowers, exploring the impact of internalised ageism for those working creatively with older adults.

Flourishing Lives, the Flourishing Lives Advisory Group (FLAG) and Dr Georgia Bowers invite you to our free online workshop reflecting on the impact of internalised ageism in arts and wellbeing settings.

Dr Georgia Bowers is one of the UK’s leading Creative Ageing practitioners and together we will explore themes of growing older in the UK, ageism and the impact of internalised ageism for those working creatively with older adults.

This discussion draws focus to how ageism can seep into the work of creative ageing practitioners and subconsciously shape and influence how we connect, engage and create with older people.

Together we consider what can be done to tackle internalised ageism and ultimately reduce its impact on Creative Ageing initiatives.

The discussion will examine the following topics:

  • Ageism
  • How ageism can lead to internalised ageism
  • The impact of internalised ageism in the field of Creative Ageing
  • A group exploration of how we can reduce the impact and raise consciousness of internalised ageism in relation to Creative Ageing initiatives.

Dr Georgia Bowers is one of the UK’s leading Creative Ageing practitioners and is a Lecturer and Programme Leader for Applied and Contemporary Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting, University of Surrey. Her research examines the ways in which participatory theatre can challenge ageism and lobby for the rights and interests of older people. Georgia’s work with older adults has been celebrated and shared across the UK, Europe and North America. She is a trustee of London Bubble Theatre Company and is the Focus Group Representative for Wellness, Community and Aging Focus Group for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (North America).

Join us to share ideas, refine your working practices, and meet other progressive people who are striving to innovate and excel community in services.
