Flourishing Lives is a coalition aiming to transform the older people's wellbeing sector by bringing together progressive people and organisations to establish a shared vision and blueprint for excellence in the provision of services for older people.
The work, which has been funded by the City Bridge Trust, has involved independently commissioned research (see the Flourishing Lives report below), as well as a series of meetings and discussions around the UK.
The early stages of the work were about establishing a shared vision or blueprint for what excellence looks like, along with some boundaries around the extent of the work intended.
The next stage of the work is developing concrete plans for seeing transformation take place at local and national levels. To this end key partners are looking to develop the involvement of funders, both grant-making trusts and local authority commissioners, as well as the Department of Health, in encouraging transformation, and we are looking at the role of academic institutions in establishing a robust body of evidence on good practice.
We are also interested in the role of multi-level leadership training and recruitment processes which help identify the most appropriate people (similar to what has been happening in the domiciliary and residential care sectors). We are beginning to explore the possibility of creating a national association for the sector.
