Intergenerational Forum: Explore Magic Me’s intergenerational arts practice

Join us for a free online gathering, in partnership with Magic Me, an informal space for arts & wellbeing providers to meet and share ideas around developing intergenerational practice in their services.

“One time, I was enjoying a Magic Me arts workshop in a care home lounge, ten pairs of older people and children, with a storyteller and a visual artist. Near me Simone, 9, and Magda 83, were comparing notes on the joys and dilemmas of choosing clothes for a special occasion. I realized that I was witnessing within just this one pair, maybe 180 years of life – from Magda’s birth to Simone’s death, two lifetimes, overlapping in this exchange, this afternoon. What a wealth of stories, ideas, dreams! What rich material for a shared creative project!”
Susan Langford (Director/Founder, Magic Me)

Over nearly 35 years, Magic Me has developed a practice of intergenerational arts work, based on creative encounters like this one, and some simple principles.

In this online workshop, Magic Me Programme Director Kate Hodson will share these principles with you and spark discussion for you about the key principles of your intergenerational work now or in the future.

About Magic Me:

In an increasingly polarised world, Magic Me’s mission is to inspire change – for individuals, communities and systems – through extraordinary art, sparking magic between generations.

Working with the oldest and youngest generations, our creative projects reflect the changing demography of London and the country, linking people different in age and diverse in ethnicity, culture and faith.

We use the arts to stimulate dialogue and exchange ideas across generations. Often linking unlikely partners, our projects offer young and older people the opportunity to work alongside leading artists, across all art forms, to create work that fosters understanding and breaks down barriers.

Activities are co-designed with partners so that this work grows out of current concerns, interests and issues in a particular community. Through this process, artists and participants create events, workshops, artworks and performances with the power to reach a far wider audience, shaping how we think about ageing and growing older within today’s society.
